Recommended Grooming Practices
Do NOT Shave
Never. Shaving this coat type causes the animal to lose the ability to regulate their temperature. Using their coat, they can warm themselves up or cool down.
Brushing
Although their hair is short, it does not mean that a brushing routine cannot be established. Using a Curry Brush at least once a week will help push extra shed out. DO NOT use a Furminator or circular double sided deshed blade. Smooth/short haired doesn't mean no hair.
Bathing
Smooth coat dogs have less skin protection, which means dirt and grime will build up on the skin much quicker. This accumulation acts as a glue and keeps your dog from naturally shedding which can cause infections, allergies, and overheating.
Frequency
3-4 weeks for best results
6-8 weeks for regular grooming
9-12 weeks for minimum maintenance
